“I just finished my series of Somatic sessions with Catherine. I came into this knowing very little about how trauma might be stored in my body, but I knew Catherine in her “former life” as a producer, which is what I do. I knew her enough to trust her, and I had read The Body Keeps the Score, and I had witnessed too much trauma alongside my son in his long journey to return back to health. What I didn’t realize was how much I had walked this road as well, and how much “dis-ease” I was carrying.
At first, I thought the process of somatic work was a little strange, but I’m open to any modality at least once! I think it was about my third session that I meditated (under Catherine’s supervision) to a place I just didn’t want to leave. My eyes were closed, but I was seeing so much. She quietly left the Zoom call, and I stayed in that place for about 30 minutes. The only way I could describe the way I felt two days later was “full to the brim with love and light.” I told my son that I felt the most overwhelming love for him—nothing else, no description, just pure love. I also am beginning to enjoy more frequent and relaxed communication with my son, who went through the health journey, and my husband reminded me that my son is not the one who changed. Clearly, that means I have changed.
I am now learning and practicing the art of accessing that emotional and physical connected space in me—the length, width, and depth of me—and recognizing where I feel stress and the trauma in my body and letting it go. And more than that, the art of loving and accepting myself and dumping that emotional bucket when I need to. My goal at the start of working with Catherine was to learn to love myself (I did not), and now not only do I love myself, but I really like myself, and I welcome myself to every day! I highly recommend somatic work, but more than highly recommend doing it with Catherine!”
